Professor Robert Audi explains why America separates church and state, how this can benefit both religious and secular citizens, why there is nevertheless controversy about what this means, and how opposed religious and secular people can peaceably resolve their differences.

Robert Audi is John A. O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at University of Notre Dame. He is internationally known for ethics, political philosophy, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of action.
