Biography

Miriam Schwartz is a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Jewish Studies (2025-2027). Her research and teaching focus on Yiddish and Hebrew literature, multilingualism, and Translation theory.

Miriam received her Ph.D at the University of Toronto in 2025. Her book project, provisionally titled "Out of Sync: Dubbing, Subtitling, and Multilingualism in Modern Yiddish and Hebrew Literature," explores the gap between the language on the page and the language of the story world, uncovering languages that affect the narrative while being erased from it. The project encompasses texts from the early to mid-twentieth century across Eastern Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East.
