Inspired by American folk singers like Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan, Goro Nakagawa (b. 1949) was a pioneer in the world of protest music in Japan during the politically turbulent 1960s. A social activist to this day, he continues to perform as well as publish novels, essays, music criticism, and translations of English-language fiction. At Dartmouth, Nakagawa will perform a number of his songs (in Japanese, but with the projection of an English translation of his lyrics) and speak about both the social movements of the 1960s and the culture of the politically-engaged folk song community.
