Michael Field was the pseudonym of two late-Victorian British women, Katharine Harris Bradley and Edith Emma Cooper, who published eight volumes of poetry and 30 plays together. The diary Works and Days presents a narrative of the two gifted poets who aspired—and ultimately failed, at least within their own lifetimes—to achieve literary fame. Their story unfolds against the noisy backdrop of advancing modernity, and in conversation with luminaries of the period, including WB Yeats, Oscar Wilde, Olive Schreiner, Robert Browning, and Bernhard Berenson, to name a few. Bradley and Harris wrote the diary for 26 years in 30 volumes and across two centuries.

Carolyn Dever will intorduce the diary, and teams of students who have been working from the volume through winter term will share their work to demonstrate what this new resource makes possible for students.
